Young Frankenstein Tickets Information
Mel Brooks is beloved by millions as the man who created The History of the World: Part I, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Life Stinks, Silent Movie, High Anxiety, and Blazing Saddles among others. Now, after the roaring success of his Broadway incarnation of his hit film The Producers he’s back at it again, bringing to life his reanimated version of one of horror literature’s finest legends.
Based on the hilarious and wildly successful Mel Brooks film of 1974, Young Frankenstein is a parody on the horror genre of films with particular attention on the 1931 adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The plot follows the foibles of the young and awkward Doctor trying to complete his grandfather’s life’s work of reanimating a corpse. With help and hindrances coming from all sides, including his misshapen helper, his seductive assistant, and his madcap fiancée’ he succeeds in bringing a dead body to life, but not without frightening and hysterical consequences.
Young Frankenstein (the movie) was penned by Mel Brooks and actor Gene Wilder. Young Frankenstein (the musical) was written by Brooks and Tony award winner Thomas Meehan, who wrote such memorable classics as Annie, The Producers (also with Mel Brooks), and the more recent screen-to-stage smash hit Hairspray.
Added to the already-wacky script are equally outlandish songs like: “The Happiest Town in Town”, “There is Nothing Like the Brain”, “Please Don’t Touch Me”, “He Vas My Boyfriend”, “Transylvania Mania”, and “He’s Loose”.
The show is directed and choreographed by 12-time Tony award-winner Susan Stroman, who choreographed and/or directed numerous Broadway hits like: Crazy for You, Show Boat, Big, Steel Pier, Contact, The Music Man, The Producers (also with Mel Brooks), and Oklahoma. In 2001 she received the Drama League's Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award.
Before heading to Broadway, the Young Frankenstein stage musical got its feet wet at Seattle, Washington’s Paramount Theatre through the month August, 2007. It was met by Seattle audiences and the press alike with wild acclaim. Young Frankenstein: the Musical previews at the Hilton Theatre on October 11 and makes its official Broadway debut on November 8.
