University of Louisville Cardinals Tickets Information

The Louisville Cardinals are one of 16 teams in the Big East Conference - along with the Cincinnati Bearcats, Connecticut Huskies, DePaul Blue Demons, Georgetown Hoyas, Marquette Golden Eagles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Pittsburgh Panthers, Providence Friars, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, St. John's Red Storm, Seton Hall Pirates, USF Bulls, Syracuse Orange, Villanova Wildcats, and West Virginia Mountaineers.

The Louisville Cardinals are the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) men's football and basketball teams for the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, one of 7 public universities in the Big East. The Cardinals were formerly members of Conference USA until 2005 when they accepted an invitation - along with DePaul, Marquette, Cincinnati, and South Florida - to join the Big East. They are two of the university's 18 varsity teams.

The Louisville Cardinals play their football home games at the 42,000 seat Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium and their basketball home games on the Denny Crum Court at the 18,865 seat Freedom Hall. Scheduled to open in 2010, a new, as-yet-unnamed, 23,500 seat Louisville waterfront arena is being built on the Ohio River to replace Freedom Hall as the men's and women's basketball teams' home stadium. The team uniform colors are red and black, and the mascot is the Cardinal bird.

Football:

The Louisville Cardinals football program has existed since 1912 and has generated a winning record of 431-411-17 (.510). This includes a postseason record of 4-7-1, and 6 conference titles. The team went 12-1 in 2006, winning their first Big East championship and the Orange Bowl, which was the team’s first ever Bowl Championship Series bowl game. The team has also earned national rankings as high as 6th in 2004 and 2006.

Coach Steve Kragthorpe is entering his 3rd season at the helm. His overall record so far is 11-13. He hopes to restore the Cardinals to the powerhouse they were only a few years ago.

There are many notable Cardinals grads playing in the NFL currently. These include David Akers (Philadelphia Eagles), Deion Branch (Seattle Seahawks), Michael Bush (Oakland Raiders), Amobi Okoye (Houston Texans), Kerry Rhodes (New York Jets) and Ted Washington. Perhaps one of the more well-known NFL Hall of Famers, Johnny Unitas, played in Louisville as well.

Louisville hopes to return to prominence this season but will not be able to do so without your help. Get your Cardinals football tickets and support your team.

Basketball:

The Louisville Cardinals have a number of school heroes in their previous rosters including 18 All-Americans, 59 players drafted into the NBA, and 3 currently playing in the NBA.

The Louisville Cardinals have never won a Big East tournament title or a Big East regular season title, but they have made 35 NCAA Championship appearances (most recently in 2009) and 14 NIT (National Invitation Tournament) appearances. They have 2 national titles (in 1980 and 1986) and 15 conference titles, and they've attended 8 Final Fours. Out of 2,311 games played since 1911, their all-time record is 1,584 wins and 829 losses (.656).

Since 2001, the Louisville Cardinals have been led by former head coach of rival team the Kentucky Wildcats, Rick Pitino. In 2005, Pitino led the Cards to their first Final Four appearance in 19 years.

In 2008-09 the Louisville Cardinals finished with an 16-2 record in the Big East and 31-5 in the NCAA. Louisville Cardinals tickets are flying out of the box office, so catch yours today.
