Nicknamed "The M's", the Seattle Mariners are a Major League Baseball team established in 1977, and based in Seattle, Washington. The Seattle Mariners are 1 of 4 teams - along with the Oakland Athletics, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and the Texas Rangers - that play in the West Division of the 14-team American League. The Seattle Mariners played their first game on April 6, 1977 against the California Angles, losing 7-0 in front of a sold-out crowd.

Since 1999 the Seattle Mariners have played their home games at Safeco Field (also known as "The Safe"), and they conduct Spring Training at Peoria Sports Complex in Peoria, Arizona as part of the Cactus League. The team uniform colors are navy blue, teal (aka "northwest green"), and silver.

The M's have ongoing in-league rivalries with the Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees.

In their career, the Seattle Mariners have won 1 Wild Card Berth (in 2000), 3 Western Division titles (in 1995, 1997, and 2001), and competed in 4 playoffs, though they have yet to win an American League pennant. Despite this, they've been contenders for the West Division title every year running from 1995 to 2003, with the exception of 1998 and 1999.
