Pittsburgh Steelers Tickets Information
The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of 4 teams in the American Football Conference North Division (AFC North) – along with the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cleveland Browns - and one of 16 teams in the AFC which in turn is one of the two conferences in the National Football League (NFL).
Formerly called the Pittsburgh Pirates and intermittently known as the Philadelphia-Pittsburgh Steagles and the Card-Pitt, the Steelers have been playing pro football since joining the NFL as an expansion team in 1933 along with Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Eagles. At the time, they were part of the Eastern Division, with a one season stint in 1945 in the Western Division, until 1949.
In 1950 they joined the American Conference, switching in 1953 to the Eastern Conference and, in 1967, its Century Division. In 1970 they moved to the American Football Conference Central Division (AFC Central) where they stayed until 2001 when they switched divisions to the AFC North, where they still remain today.
Out of all the members of the AFC, the Pittsburgh Steelers have the most impressive championship record to date, with 14 AFC championship game appearances, 7 wins and 7 losses.
Since the 1966 advent of the Super Bowl, the Steelers are the only team in NFL history to win 6 Super Bowls (1974, 1975, 1978, 1979, 2005 and 2008).
The Pittsburgh Steelers play their home games at Heinz Field, previously playing in turn at Three Rivers Stadium, Pitt Stadium, and originally (from 1933 to 2000) Forbes Field. The team uniform colors are black and gold.
They are currently under the leadership of head coach Mike Tomlin. Before that he was on the coaching and administrative staff of the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the NCAA football teams at University of Cincinnati, Arkansas State University, University of Memphis, and Virginia Military Institute.
A number of Steelers have earned their way into the pro football history books, including the following who’ve been honored by entry into NFL Hall of Fame: owner Bert Bell (1941-46; inducted 1963), cornerback Mel Blount (1970-83; inducted 1989), quarterback Terrry Bradshaw (1970-83; inducted 1989), quarterback Len Dawson (1957-59; inducted 1987), running back Bill Dudley (1942, 1945-46; inducted 1966), defensive tackle Joe Greene (1969-81; inducted 1987), outside linebacker Jack Ham (1971-82; inducted 1988), running back Franco Harris (1972-83; inducted 1990), fullback John Henry Johnson (1960-65; 1987), offensive lineman Walt Kiesling (1937-44, 1949-61; inducted 1966), middle linebacker Jack Lambert (1974-84; inducted 1990), quarterback Bobby Layne (1958-62; inducted 1967), fullback Marlon Motley (1955; inducted 1968), coach Chuck Noll (1969-91; inducted 1993), owner Art Rooney (1933-88; inducted 1964), owner Dan Rooney (1955-present; inducted 2000), wide receiver John Stallworth (1974-87; inducted 2002), defensive tackle Ernie Stautner (1950-1963; inducted 1969), wide receiver Lynn Swann (1979-82; inducted 2001), and center Mike Webster (1974-88; inducted 1997).
