Outback Bowl Tickets Information

Sponsored by the inimitable Outback Steakhouse, the Outback Bowl is held in Tampa, Florida at the 65,000-75,000 seat Raymond James Stadium, home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL (National Football League) and the Florida Bulls of the NCAA south. Prior to that it was held at Houlihan’s Stadium, formerly Tampa Stadium, from 1986 to 1998.

A relatively “young” Bowl Game, the Outback Bowl started in 1986 as the Hall of Fame Bowl, a name it kept up until 1994. An earlier incarnation of the Hall of Fame Bowl was played from 1977 to 1985 at Birmingham, Alabama’s Legion Field and known then as the Hall of Fame Classic. Between 1986 and 1990 the game was also known as the All-American Bowl.

What’s traditionally considered the “first” Outback Bowl, the 1986 Hall of Fame Bowl, saw Boston College beating out George, 27-24. The “real” first Hall of Fame Bowl (in 1977) saw Maryland beating Minnesota, 17-7.

Numerous Outback Bowl MVPs have gone on to play for National Football League (NFL), including: Chris Perry of the Cincinnati Bengals, Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints, and Courtney Brown, formerly of the Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos.

Played as most Bowl Games are, at the very start of each year, the 2009 Outback Bowl pitted the Big Ten’s Iowa Hawkeyes against the SEC’s South Carolina Gamecocks, the Hawkeyes winning 31-10.

As the Outback Bowl has contracts with both the Big 10 and the SEC, it promises a minimum payout for both participating schools each year of $3.3 each. The 2010 Outback Bowl takes place on January 1, New Year’s Day. Kickoff is at 11 am.

The Outback Bowl is always a cherished event in Tampa, honored with week’s of exciting events leading up to the game, including: Team Night at Tampa Bay Lightning, DeBartolo Team Luncheon, Player’s Night at Gameworks, Busch Gardens Team Outing, MetLife/Mercedes Benz Presidents’ Reception, Outback Bowl Beach Day, Teco Energy Parade and Band Blast. On New Year’s Eve those present can enjoy the Light Up Tampa Bay festivities. Then on “the day off”, leading up to the Outback Bowl will be the Mercedes Benz Corporate Tent Village, the Pregame Bowl Bash, and the DeBartolo Pregame Show.

Don’t miss a moment of the excitement. Get your Outback Bowl tickets now.
