Orange Bowl Tickets Information
Sponsored by FedEx, the Orange Bowl is played in Land Shark Stadium in Miami Gardens, where it’s been held since 1996. Prior to that, the Orange Bowl had been played at the Miami Orange Bowl, and before that at Miami Field. The Orange Bowl used to feature the Big Eight Conference champion, until those teams were diffused into other conferences (mostly the Big 12), after which selection of teams for the Orange Bowl is based on the results of the previous 3 Bowl Games in that year’s Bowl Championship Series.
The Bowl Championship Series of Bowl Games, of which the Orange Bowl is a part, pits the season’s top football teams from all of the major NCAA Division 1-A conferences: Atlantic Coast Conference, Big East Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, Conference USA, Mid-American Conference, Mountain West Conference, Pac-10 Conference, Southeastern Conference, Sun Belt Conference, and the Western Athletic Conference, along with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish – against one another to decide what team becomes that year’s NCAA football champion. That ultimate decision is determined at the BCS National Championship Game. Prior to the Orange Bowl are 3 other Bowl Games leading up to the BCS Championship Game, those being: the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and Fiesta Bowl.
Started in 1935, the same year as the Sugar Bowl and Fiesta Bowl, the Orange Bowl is one of the oldest Bowl Games in national college football history, second only to the Rose Bowl. In that inaugural 1935 Orange Bowl, the Bucknell Bison shut out the Miami Hurricanes, 28-0.
In August of 2000, the Orange Bowl committee created "The PATCH", the official logo of the FedEx Orange Bowl, representing the event’s 74-year history of college football tradition, with 18 National Championships and 15 Heisman Trophy winners. The official mascot of the Orange Bowl committee is Obie the Orange.
Oklahoma leads the NCAA in Orange Bowl appearances and wins, with 18 and 12, respectively. Nebraska ties Oklahoma for the most number of consecutive appearances.
Last year saw the Virginia Tech Hokies of the ACC beating the Cincinnati Beatcats of the Big East, 20-7.
Many Orange Bowl MVPs have later gone on to play pro football in the NFL (National Football League), including most recently: Ahman Green (Houston Texans), Carson Palmer (Cincinnati Bengals), and Willie Reid (Dallas Cowboys).
After NBC, CBS, and then finally ABC all took turns airing the Orange Bowl over the years, the current honor goes to FOX TV. But why watch it on TV when you can see it live? Just get your Orange Bowl tickets now, and be there for all the excitement.
