Navy Midshipmen Tickets Information
The Navy Midshipmen are the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) varsity athletics teams for the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The Midshipmen count as their other chief rivals the other two military teams, the Army Black Knights and the Air Force Falcons.
The teams’ official fight song is “Anchors Aweigh”. The team uniform colors are gold and navy blue, and their mascot is Bill the Goat.
Men’s Basketball
The Navy Midshipmen men’s basketball team is one of 8 members of the Patriot League, the others being: the American Eagles, the Bucknell Bison, the Colgate Raiders, the College of the Holy Cross Crusaders, the Lafayette Leopards, the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, and the Army Black Knights. The Midshipmen men’s basketball team plays their home games at the 5,710-seat Alumni Hall.
Currently in his fifth season as head coach of the Navy Midshipmen is Billy Lange, former head coach at Merchant Marine Academy and assistant coach at Villanova, La Salle, and Philadelphia.
In 2005-06 the Navy Midshipmen finished with a 14-10 record in the Patriot League and 14-16 overall.
Football
The Navy Midshipmen football team is one of 2 teams in the NCAA not a part of any Conference, the other Independent team being Navy’s chief rival, the United States Military Academy’s Army Black Knights. The Midshipmen football team plays their home games at the 34,000-seat Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
The Navy Midshipmen have been playing football since 1845 and in that time have achieved an overall record of 632-516-57 and a postseason bowl record of 6-8-1. They won the 1926 National Championship.
Currently going into his second season, Ken Niumatalolo is the current head coach of the Navy football team, replacing Paul Johnson.
19 Navy football players and 3 Midshipmen coaches have earned their way into the college football hall of fame, including two (Joe Bellino and Roger Staubach) who went on to win both the Heisman Trophy and Maxwell Award.
The regular college football season officially ends, in fact, on a weekend full of particularly contentious matches that always includes the always vicious Army-Navy Game. The other major military event of the college football season is the coveted Commander in Chief Trophy, battled over each year by the Army, Navy, and Air Force teams and which the Midshipmen have had the honor of winning 11 times, most recently for the six years running 2003-2008.
The Navy Midshipmen football team finished out 2008 with a 8-6 overall record.
