Minnesota Vikings Tickets Information

The Minnesota Vikings are one of 4 teams in the National Football Conference North Division (NFC North) – along with the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, and Green Bay Packers – and one of 16 teams in the NFC which in turn is one of the two conferences in the National Football League (NFL).

The team known fondly to its fans as “The Purple People Eaters” and “The Vikes”, the Vikings joined the NFL and its Western Conference as an expansion team in 1961. In 1967 they also became a part of the Central Division. During this time they 2 NFL Central Division championships, consecutively (1967-68) and 1 NFL Western Conference championship (1969). They also won that year’s NFL Championship, beating the Cleveland Browns 27-7.

When the Minnesota Vikings first joined the NFC it was as part of the NFC Central Division until 2002 when they became a part of the NFC North Division, where they remain today. Since joining the NFC they have won 15 NFC Central Division championships (1970, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1989, 1992, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2008) and 3 NFC conference championships (1973-74, 1976). Since the advent of the Super Bowl, the Vikings have played in 4 Super Bowls and yet to win any.

Since 1982, the Minnesota Vikings have been playing their home games at the 64,000 seat Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome (aka the “Thunderdome”, the “Homerdome”, the “Metrodome”) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The team uniform colors are gold, purple, and white, and the mascot is named Ragnar.

They are currently under the leadership of head coach Brad Childress who has been in this role since 2006. Before that, he was on the coaching and administrative staffs of the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and the NCAA football teams for the University of Wisconsin, University of Utah, Northern Arizona University, and University of Illinois.

A number of Vikings have earned their way into the pro football history books, including the following who’ve been honored by entry into NFL Hall of Fame: quarterback Fran Tarkenton (1961-66, 1972-78; inducted 1986), safety Paul Krause (1968-1979; inducted 1998), offensive tackle Ron Yary (1068-81; inducted 2001), defensive end Carl Eller (1964-78; inducted 2004), defensive tackle Alan Page (1967-78; inducted 1988), General Manager Jim Finks (1964-73; inducted 1995), and Head Coach Bud Grant (1967-83, 1985; inducted 1994).
