The Los Angeles Dodgers are a Major League Baseball team established in 1883, and based in Los Angeles, California since 1958. Before that they were the Brooklyn Dodgers since 1911 and up to 1957 with a 17-year stint in the middle, 1914-1931, as the Brooklyn Robins. Before 1911, the Brooklyn-based team went through 5 other incarnations, as: the Atlantics, the Grays, the Bridegrooms, the Grooms, and the Superbas.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are 1 of 5 teams - along with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Colorado Rockies, the San Diego Padres, and the San Francisco Giants - that play in the West Division of the 16-team National League.
As the L.A. Dodgers, they played their first game on April 10, 1962 against the Cincinnati Reds, and lost 6-3. Their first win came on the very next day against the very same team, 6-2.
Since 1962 the Los Angeles Dodgers have played their home games at Dodger Stadium, and they conduct Spring Training at Holman Stadium in Vero Beach, Florida as part of the Grapefruit League. The team uniform colors are "Dodger's blue" and white.
The LA Dodgers have ongoing in-league rivalries with fellow Californians the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres, and interleague rivalries with close neighbors the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, played out each year in the Freeway Series. They also battle it out each year with interleague rivals the New York Yankees.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had numerous baseball legends on their roster, including: All-Stars Mike Piazza and Steve Garvey, 3-time Cy Young Award winner Sandy Koufax, 1988 MVP Kirk Gibson and 3-time MVP Roy Campanella, 6-time Gold Glove Award winner Wes Parker and 2006 Gold Glove winner Greg Maddux. Overall, 45 Los Angeles Dodgers have been inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame.
