Green Bay Packers Tickets Information

The Green Bay Packers are one of 4 teams in the National Football Conference North Division (NFC North) – along with the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings – and one of 16 teams in the NFC which in turn is one of the two conferences in the National Football League (NFL).

Based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the Packers were started by former high school football rivals in 1919 and have been playing pro football as part of the NFL since 1921. Between then and the time they joined the NFC, they moved through numerous NFL divisions and conferences, starting with the Western Division in 1933, then the National Conference in 1950, ultimately moving to the Western Conference in 1953 and, in 1967, its Central Division.

During that time, they won 10 NFL West division championships (1936, 1938-39, 1941, 1944, 1960-62, 1965, 1966), 5 NFL Central division championships (1967, 1972, 1995-97), and 6 NFL Western Conference championships (1960-62, 1965-67). They also won 9 NFL Championships, their first 3 consecutively (1929-31, 1936, 1939, 1944, 1961-62, 1965).

When the Green Bay Packers first joined the NFC in 1970, it was as part of the NFC Central Division. They didn’t join the NFC North Division, where they remain today, until 2002. Since joining the NFC, the Packers have won 4 NFC North Division championships, consecutively (2002-04, 2007) and 2 NFC conference championships, also consecutively (1996-97).

Since the advent of the Super Bowl, the Packers have played in 4 Super Bowls and won 3, starting out with Super Bowl I (at least the first to officially bear the name) in 1967 beating the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10, then moving on to win Super Bowl II the very next year, in 1968, this time beating the Oakland Raiders 33-14. Their third Super Bowl win came in 1997 at Super Bowl XXXI beating the New England Patriots 35-21.

In the franchise’s lengthy career, the Green Bay Packers have gone through about as many stadiums as they have nicknames- those nicknames being: Indian Packers, Indians, Acme Packers, Blues, Big Bay Blues, Bays, and The Pack; those stadiums being: Hagemeister Park, Bellevue Park, City Stadium, Borchert Field, Wisconsin State Fair Park, Marquetta Stadium, Milwaukee County Stadium, and where they play their home games today, the 72,000+ seat Lambeau Field (aka “New” City Stadium). The team uniform colors are gold, dark green, and white.

They are currently under the leadership of head coach Mike McCarthy who has been in this role since 2006. Before that, he was on the coaching and administrative staffs of the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs and the NCAA football team for the University of Pittsburgh.

A number of Packers have earned their way into the pro football history books, including 26 who’ve been honored by entry into NFL Hall of Fame.
