Fiesta Bowl Tickets Information
First played in 1971, the Fiesta Bowl had been played at the Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona all the way up until 2006. The Fiesta Bowl is now played at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
As of 1998, the Fiesta Bowl became a cherished part of the Bowl Championship Series of Bowl Games, in which the best football teams of the season from all of the major NCAA Division 1-A conferences, those being: Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West, Pac-10, Southeastern, Sun Belt, and the Western Athletic, along with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish – all compete to determine which team will become this year’s college football champion. That final determination is made at the BCS National Championship Game. Besides the Fiesta Bowl, the other Bowl Games leading up to the BCS Title Game are the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and Orange Bowl.
The Fiesta Bowl hosts the Big 12 Conference champions, which includes: the Colorado Buffaloes, the Iowa State Cyclones, the Kansas Jayhawks, the Kansas State Wildcats, the Missouri Tigers, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Baylor Bears, the Oklahoma Sooners, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, the Texas Longhorns, the Texas A&M Aggies, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
In its original inception, however, the Fiesta Bowl was affiliated with the Western Athletic Conference, frustrated at its inability to get Bowl Game invitations for its teams. The Arizona State Sun Devils won the first 3 Fiesta Bowls, beating out respectively: the Florida State Seminoles 45-38, the Missouri Tigers 49-35, and the Pittsburgh Panthers 28-7. Last year’s 2009 Fiesta Bowl saw the Texas Longhorns nosing out the Ohio State Buckeyes 24-21.
Many Fiesta Bowl MVPs have gone on to successful NFL (National Football League) careers, including the following recent players: Joey Harrington (New Orleans Saints), Mike Doss (Cincinnati Bengals), Alex Smith (San Francisco 49ers), Paris Warren (New Orleans Saints), Troy Smith (Baltimore Ravens), and A.J. Hawk (Green Bay Packers).
January 2, 2010, marks the 39th Annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (previously sponsored by Sunkist and IBM, respectively). Including this most recent incarnation, 24 of the last 25 Fiesta Bowls have been sold out, so don’t delay in getting a hold of your 2008 Fiesta Bowl tickets or you might just wind up spending January 2, 2010 stuck at home watching the game on FOX TV.
