Clemson University Tigers Tickets Information
Clemson is a Charter Member of the ACC, having joined in 1953 - along with Duke, Maryland, NC State, North Carolina, South Carolina (which left in 1971 to join the Southeastern Conference), and Wake Forest - after leaving the Southern Conference due, in large part, to its ban on postseason competition.
Clemson’s 19 varsity teams (9 women's, 10 men's), including their NCAA football and men's basketball teams, are called the Tigers, taken from the Auburn Tigers of the Southeast Conference when head football coach Walter Riggs came to the school in 1896. The Clemson Tigers football stadium is the 81,000+ capacity Frank Howard Field at Memorial Stadium and its men's basketball arena is the nearly 11,000 capacity J.C. Littlejohn Coliseum.
Clemson has a number of fierce ongoing rivalries. One is with close neighbor Georgia Tech (about 100 miles away) that has always been nail-bitingly close, less than 7 points determining the winner in 9 out of their 10 games played from 1996 to 2005. The school colors are orange and purple.
The Clemson Tigers have an intense in-state rivalry with the South Carolina Gamecocks in most of the sports in which they both participate, but their most watched is in football.
Football:
Before helping found the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Clemson Tigers football team had already won 3 Southern Conference titles. The Clemson Tigers have won 13 ACC Championships, more than any other team in the league, with their first in 1956 and their last in 1991. They were also the Associated Press National Champions and the Coaches Poll National Champions in 1981.
Among other great Clemson Tigers football victories are numerous Bowl games including the Gator Bowl 4 times, most recently in 1989, the 1989 Citrus Bowl, the 1991 Hall of Fame Bowl, the 1993 and 2004 Peaches Bowl, and the 2005 Champs Sports Bowl - among others.
One famous Clemson football rivalry is the Textile Bowl, an annual football game against neighbors to the north, NC State. Get your Clemson Tigers tickets today!
Men's Basketball:
The Clemson Tigers basketball team has yet to win an Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament championship, though they won the ACC regular season championship in 1990. Before helping found the league they had also won 1 Southern Conference championship, in 1939.
The Clemson Tigers also made it to the National Invitation Tournament in 1999, and nearly walked away with it, until California beat them by a single point in the finals. In 2005 the Clemson Tigers won the San Juan Shootout, a 3-day, 8-team regular season tournament.
The Clemson Tigers head coach, Oliver Purnell, also happens to be sitting President of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He was an assistant coach for the 2004 U.S. Olympic team and came to Clemson with 256 career victories and a Coach of the Year award in 3 different leagues. In a recent game against Georgia Tech, Purnell notched his 301st win. Get your Clemson Tigers tickets right away and see how hard Purnell makes his Tigers pounce this year.
