Britney Spears Tickets Information
Mississippi-born, Louisiana-raised, Britney Spears made her solo debut in 1999 with …"Baby One More Time" and instantly established herself as the entertainment phenomenon she still is today, having in fact been widely credited for reviving the entire teen pop genre.
Her early childhood training as a gymnast and dancer contributed greatly to her tireless onstage prowess rivaling that of no less than the iconic predecessor to whom she’s often compared (and has since apparently befriended): Madonna. Britney attended the New York City Professional Performing Arts School and held several Off-Broadway roles. She had a brief stint in 1997 in Innosense, an all-female pop group, before stepping out on her own as the solo opening act for boy-bands the Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync.
After her solo debut single …"Baby One More Time" hit number 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, followed by the debut album of the same name hitting number 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart, the charismatic Britney Spears posed in a titillating and controversial David LaChapelle Rolling Stone cover photo, which brought her worldwide attention of an entirely different kind.
Never one to bend to criticism and always one to push the public’s buttons, Spears continued developing her trademark sexy-schoolgirl style with appearances on TV’s Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. She also received proud vindication as a 4-time Billboard Music Awards winner of 1999, including the revered status symbol of Female Artist of the Year.
In May 2000, Britney Spears released her second studio album, "Oops!…I Did It Again", which instantly garnered her the record for being added to the most radio station playlists in a single day. It also became a Top 10 smash in several countries (including her own), and set her off on her first world tour.
That album earned her two Billboard Music Awards, and the tour earned her more controversy with a startling performance on the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
Her third album, 2001’s "Crossroads", while less successful than her previous two, still kept up her flawless streak of albums debuting in the U.S. at number 1.
After several disappointments, including a widely publicized breakup with former beau Justin Timberlake, a string of not-so-hot appearances in film, and an unexpected hiatus from the stage and studio, Britney pounced back on the scene with a scintillating appearance on the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, performing “Like a Virgin” with fellow teen pop icon Christina Aguilera and, later, a shocking kiss on the lips with the single’s originator, Madonna herself.
Britney’s fourth studio album, In the Zone, came out that same year, featuring the contributions of celebrity producers R. Kelly and Moby, with 8 of the 13 songs co-written by Spears herself. She earned her first Grammy award, in the Best Dance Recording category, for the song “Toxic”.
After another reprieve to work on developing another part of her life—that being her personal life—punctuated by periodic cameos here and there, and a lukewarm reception for her 2007 fifth album Blackout in 2007 (though it did win her two MTV Europe Music Awards), Britney celebrated her 27th birthday in 2008 with the release of her sixth studio album, "Circus", bringing with it the return of the ground-breaking success we’ve grown to expect of her.
Circus revived her earlier performances of debuting at number 1 on Billboard’s Top 200, becoming her fifth album to reach number 1, which made her the only artist to have 4 albums selling more than half a million copies. It also gave her first pair of top 10 singles since her debut, with “Womanizer” and the title track.
Her 2009 tour for the album, "The Circus" Starring: Britney Spears and featuring opening act The Pussycat Dolls, started March 3 at the New Orleans Arena and makes stop in the U.S. and Canada through Sep 23 at the Stapes Center in Los Angeles, before heading overseas for nearly 2 weeks of shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in Australia.
With a flurry of entries in the Guinness Book of World Records, Britney’s sold so many of her own records (at last count, over 32 million in the U.S. and over 85 million worldwide) that she’s now considered the eighth best-selling female recording artist of all time and one of the all-time best-selling music artists overall in the world.
