Atlanta Falcons Tickets Information

The Atlanta Falcons are one of 4 teams in the National Football Conference South Division (NFC South) – along with the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers – and one of 16 teams in the NFC which in turn is one of the two conferences in the National Football League (NFL).

The Falcons have been playing football as part of the NFL and its Eastern Conference since joining as an expansion team in1966. One year later, in 1967, they moved to the Coastal Division of the Western Conference, of which they remained a part until joining the NFC in 1970. Before joining the NFC, the Atlanta Falcons had yet to win any division, conference, or NFL championships.

When the Atlanta Falcons first joined the NFC it was as part of the NFC West Division. They didn’t join the NFC South Division until 2002. Since becoming a part of the NFC, the Falcons have won 2 NFC West Division championships (1980, 1998), 1 NFC South Division championship (2004), and 1 NFC conference championship (1998).

Since the advent of the Super Bowl, the Falcons have played in only one Super Bowl, that being Super Bowl XXXIII in 1999 losing to the Denver Broncos 34-19.

For 25 years the Atlanta Falcons have played their home games at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. But since 1992 they’ve been calling a new field home, that being the 71,000+ seat George Dome, also home to the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks. The Falcons’ uniform colors are red, black, and white, and their mascot is Freddy Falcon.

They are currently under the leadership of head coach Mike Smith who, as of 2009, is in his second season with the team. However, he’s no stranger to the NFL. He came to the Falcons fresh off his stint as defensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was also the Linebackers Coach of the Baltimore Ravens from 1999 to 2002.

A number of Falcons have earned their way into the pro football history books, including the following who’ve been honored by entry into NFL Hall of Fame: running back Eric Dickerson (1993; inducted 1999) and wide receiver Tommy McDonald (1967; inducted 1998). Their past rosters also boast George Sports Hall of Famers linebacker Tommy Nobis (1966-76), defensive end Claude Humphrey (1968-78), center Jeff Van Note (1969-86), Head Coach Marion Campbell (1974-76, 1987-89), wide receiver Alfred Jenkins (1975-83, 1986), and Head Coach Dan Reeves (1997-2003).
