The Atlantic Coast Conference (commonly abbreviated as the ACC) is one of the intercollegiate athletics conferences in Division I of the NCAA. Established in 1953, the Atlantic Coast Conference is comprised of 12 member schools in 7 states located on the eastern coast of the United States, namely: Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The member schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference are split into 2 divisions, Atlantic and Coastal. Their names and their respective teams are as follows:

Atlantic Division

  • Boston College - Boston College Eagles
  • Clemson University - Clemson Tigers
  • Florida State University - Florida State Seminoles
  • University of Maryland - Maryland Terrapins
  • North Carolina State University - NC State Wolfpack
  • Wake Forest University - Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Coastal Division

  • Duke University - Duke Blue Devils
  • Georgia Institute of Technology - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
  • University of Miami - Miami Hurricanes
  • University of North Carolina - North Carolina Tar Heels
  • University of Virginia - Virginia Cavaliers
  • Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University - Virginia Tech Hokies

The ACC fields 20 sports, among them football and men's basketball. In its history, ACC schools have won 97 NCAA championships and claimed 116 men's titles and 57 women's titles.

Football

The Clemson Tigers currently lead the ACC in football, with 13 championships under their belt, with the Florida State Seminoles in a close 2nd, with 12 championship wins. Third place goes to the Maryland Terrapins with 9 championship victories. The reigning conference champions are the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Hokies have won the past two championships and are showing no plans of slowing down.

So far, only 2 teams in the ACC have never beaten their peers all the way to conference crown, those being the Miami Hurricanes and the BC Eagles.

Basketball

Since the beginning of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1954, the basketball tournament has been closely followed by sports pundits and fans alike due to the high level of competition between the teams involved.

The North Carolina Tar Heels and Duke Blue Devils are tied for the most ACC championships with 17 each. North Carolina State lags far behind but is still third in the conference with 9 ACC tournament wins, while Wake Forest has 4, Maryland has 3 and Georgia Tech has won 2. Will the two powerhouses in the conference take another title this coming year? Or will a team that hasn’t won an ACC championship like Clemson take the crown? Find out in person with your tickets.
