Chicago Cubs Tickets Information

Nicknamed "The Cubbies", the Chicago Cubs are a Major League Baseball team established in 1876, and based in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Starting out as the Chicago White Stockings through 1889, the became the Chicago Colts for the years 1890 to 1897, then the Chicago Orphans from 1898 to 1901, and finally, in 1902, took on the name we know them by today.

The Chicago Cubs are one of six teams - along with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Houston Astros, and the Cincinnati Reds - that play in the Central Division of the 16-team National League. The Chicago Cubs played their first game (as the White Stockings) on April 25, 1876 against Louisville.

Since 1916 the Chicago Cubs have played their home games at the famous Wrigley Field (also known as Cubs Park), and they conduct Spring Training at HoHoKam Park in Mesa, Arizona as part of the Cactus League.

The Cubs have 2 ongoing in-league rivalries, one with the Milwaukee Brewers known as the I-94 Series, and one with the St. Louis Cardinals known as the I-55 Series. They also have an interleague rivalry with the American League's Chicago White Sox, known as the Crosstown Classic or the Crosstown Showdown or the Red Line Series.

From 1876 to 1945 the Chicago Cubs have won 16 National League pennants, as well as 2 consecutive World Series titles (in 1907 and 1908). But since then, the team has seemed to be struggling. They've won 1 Wild Card Berth (in 1998), 2 East Division titles (in 1984 and 1989) and 3 Central Division title (in 2003, 2007 and 2008).

The Chicago Cubs have had a number of legends in their rosters, including 500 Home Run club member Ernie Banks and Sammy Sosa (the latter also 1998's MVP of the year), Triple Crown pitchers Hippo Vaughn and Grover Alexander, 1992 Cy Young Award winner Greg Maddux, and 2004 All-Star Moises Alou. Overall, 37 Chicago Cubs have been inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame, 13 of whom played more games with the Cubs than any other team.

In 2008, the Chicago Cubs finished first in the division, posting 97 wins and 64 losses, but lost in the ALDS to the L.A. Dodgers and continued their 100 year championship drought (longer than any other North American professional sports team). So if you've got a penchant for underdogs, Chicago Cubs tickets are just the tickets for you.
