Philadelphia Phillies Tickets Information

Nicknamed "The Phils", "The Fightin' Phils", and "The Fightin's", the Philadelphia Phillies are a Major League Baseball team established in 1883, and based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Phillies are 1 of 5 teams - along with the Atlanta Braves, the Florida Marlins, the New York Mets, and the Washington Nationals - that play in the East Division of the 16-team National League.

Though since joining the National League they've always been known as the Philadelphia Phillies, pre-National League they had been the Philadelphia Quakers and before that the Worcester Rubylegs. They also had a failed experiment for the 1944-45 season as the unofficial Philadelphia Blue Jays.

Since 2004 the Philadelphia Phillies have played their home games at Citizens Bank Park (also known as "The Bank" and "The Cit"), and they conduct Spring Training at Bright House Networks Field in Clearwater, Florida as part of the Grapefruit League. The team uniform colors are red and white.

The Phillies have an ongoing in-league rivalry known as the Battle for Pennsylvania (or the Turnpike Series) with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the first half of the 20th century they had crosstown rivals in the Philadelphia Athletics (aka the Philadelphia A's) but lost those proximal opponents when that team moved to Oakland, California in 1955.

In their career, the Philadelphia Phillies have yet to win a Wild Card Berth, though they have won 8 Eastern Division titles (their first in 1976, their last in 2008), and 6 National League pennants (their first in 1915, their last in 2008).

The Phillies have played in 6 World Series and won 2: in 1980 against the Kansas City Royals, and in 2008 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Though certainly not proud of it, the Phillies hold the record for the most losses in any professional sport and only just had their record for the longest streak without a World Series appearance (for the 97-year stretch of 1883-1980) broken by the current record-holders, the Chicago Cubs.

And yet, with close to 10,000 losses under their belt, the Philadelphia Phillies have seen 33 of their former players inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, including the following who were elected since the start of the 21st century: Gavvy Cravath, Carry Maddox, Tony Taylor, Sherry Magee, Billy Hamilton, Bob Boone, and Dallas Green. The Phillies' roster has also boasted such stars as four-time Cy Young award winner Steve Carlton and 3-time MVP and multiple time Silver Slugger and Gold Gloves winner Mike Schmidt.

Putting all that history behind them, the Philadelphia Phillies were able to work wonders in 2008, finishing 1st in the division posting 92 wins and 70 losses, and culminating in a huge World Series victory. So pick up those Philadelphia Phillies tickets now and see if they can do it again.
