Boston Red Sox Tickets Information

Often referred to as the Bosox, and just The Sox by locals, the Boston Red Sox are a Major League Baseball team established in 1901, and based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Boston Red Sox are 1 of 5 teams - along with the Baltimore Orioles, the New York Yankees, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and the Toronto Blue Jays - that play in the Eastern Division of the 14-team American League.

Originally called the Boston Somersets until 1903 when they became the Boston Pilgrims (a name which some people still use today to refer the team), they didn't become the Boston Red Sox until 1907.

Since 1912 the Boston Red Sox have played their home games at the legendary Fenway Park, and they conduct Spring Training at City of Palms Park in Fort Meyers, Florida as part of the Grapefruit League.

For over 100 years the Red Sox have been bitter and brutal in-league rivals with the New York Yankees. So far the Yankees are ahead in World Series wins (26 to 7), pennants (39 to 12), and series all-time (1124–939) as of the middle of the 2009 season. The Red Sox have played against the Yankees in 3 American League Championship Series (in 1999, 2003, and 2004), and winning once (in 2004).

In their career, the Boston Red Sox have won 6 Wild Card Berths (their first in 1998 and their last in 2008), 6 Eastern Division titles (their first in 1975, their last in 2007), and 12 American League pennants (their first in 1903, their last in 2007).

They've won 7 World Series: in 1903 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, in 1912 against the New York Giants, in 1915 against the Philadelphia Phillies, in 1916 against the Brooklyn Robins, in 1918 against the Chicago Cubs, and after that not until 86 years later, in 2004 (MLB's 100th World Series) against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Red Sox made it two World Series Championships in the new millennium in 2007 when they swept the Colorado Rockies.

The Boston Red Sox have a number of legends in their previous rosters not least among them: Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, triple crown batter Carl Yastrzemski, and triple crown pitchers Cy Young and Pedro Martinez. Overall, 30 former Red Sox have been inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame, 12 as Red Sox.

In 2008, the Boston Red Sox finished second in the division, posting 95 wins and 67 losses, and lost in the ALCS. Get your Boston Red Sox tickets now and see how well they fare this season.
