They are two of the university's 15 varsity teams (6 men's, 9 women's).

The Washington State Cougars play their football home games at the 35,117 seat Martin Stadium and their basketball home games at the 12,058 seat Beasely Coliseum. The team uniform colors are crimson and gray, and the mascot is Butch the cougar.

Football:

The Washington State Cougars football program was established in 1893 and has achieved a 492-475-45 (.508) record overall, including a 6-4 postseason bowl record, 1 national title in 1915, and 4 conference titles.

Coach Paul Wulff is entering his 2nd year as head coach of the team, after finishing 2008 with a 2-11 record. He was a former offensive lineman for Washington State from 1986 to 1989, and hopes that his experience head coaching Eastern Washington will assist him in turning the team around.

NFL players who started their careers at Washington State include Rian Lindell (Buffalo Bills), Marcus Trufant (Seattle Seahawks), and former NFL quarterback Drew Bledsoe (New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys).

The Washington State Cougars are poised to turn their fortunes around and they need your help. Purchase your tickets and help them defeat their opponents in 2009.

The Washington State Cougars have a number of school heroes in their previous rosters including the following who've made it to the NBA: Carlos Daniel (Phoenix Suns), Isaac Fontaine (Memphis Grizzlies), Mark Hendrickson (New Jersey Nets), Jay Locklier (Boston Celtics), Randy Stoll (Utah Stars), and Jeff Varem (Chicago Bulls).

Of the 9 Pac-10 championship tournaments that took place since 1987, the Washington State Cougars have no Pac-10 tournament titles. They have yet to win a regular season title as part of the Athletic Association of Western Universities/Pacific-8/Pacific Ten (AAWU/Pac-8/Pac-10), in 1984 and 1985, although prior to 1960 they won 2 as part of the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC).

The Cougars have yet to win an NCAA championship, though they were the runners-up in 1941, losing to the Wisconsin Badgers, 39-34. They also have yet to win an NIT championship (National Invitation Tournament).

In 2008-09, the Washington State Cougars finished 7th in the conference with a 8-10 (.444) record in the Pac-10 and 17-16 (.515) in the NCAA. Things can only go up from here. So get your Washington State Cougars tickets today and see their imminent rise.
