Washington Redskins Tickets Information

The Washington Redskins are one of 4 teams in the National Football Conference East Division (NFC East) – along with the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and Philadelphia Eagles – and one of 16 teams in the NFC which in turn is one of the two conferences in the National Football League (NFL).

The Landover, Maryland team known fondly to its fans as the “Skins”, the Redskins have been playing football as part of the NFL since 1932, though at that time under the name the Boston Braves. They became the Boston Redskins just one year later, the same year that they joined the NFL Eastern Division. In 1937, while still part of the NFL Eastern Division, they took on the name we know them by today.

The Washington Redskins went on to win 6 NFL East division championships (1936-37, 1940, 1942-43, 1945). They then joined the American Conference in 1950, the Eastern Conference in 1953 and, in 1967, its Capitol Division.

The Washington Redskins joined the NFC East Division in 1970. Since then they have won 6 NFC East Division championships (1972, 1983-84, 1987, 1991, 1999) and 5 NFC conference championships (1972, 1982-83, 1987, 1991). Since the advent of the Super Bowl, the Redskins have played in 5 Super Bowls and won 3 – Super Bowl XVII in 1983 beating the Miami Dolphins 27-17, Super Bowl XXII in 1988 beating the Denver Broncos 42-10, and Super Bowl XXVI in 1992 beating the Buffalo Bills 37-24.

Between 1961 and 1996 the Washington Redskins played their home games at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. But as of 1997 they’ve been playing all their home games at the 91,000+ seat FedEx Stadium (once known as the Jack Kent Cooke Stadium) in Landover, Maryland. The team uniform colors are burgundy, gold, and white.

They are currently under the leadership of head coach Jim Zorn who has been in this role since 2008. He has also had the role of an assistant coach for the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions. Many also know him from his playing days as a quarterback for the Seahawks, Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A number of Redskins have earned their way into the pro football history books, including the following who’ve been honored by entry into NFL Hall of Fame: head coach George Allen, running back/cornerback Cliff Battles, quarterback/safety/punter Sammy Baugh, running back/cornerback Bill Dudley, offensive tackle/defensive tackle Albert Glen “Turk” Edwards, head coach Ray Flaherty, safety Ken Houston, linebacker Sam Huff, quarterback Sonny Jurgensen, safety Paul Krause, founder/owner George Preston Marshall, tight end/defensive end Wayne Millner, running back Bobby Mitchell, running back John Riggins, wide receiver Charley Taylor, and current head coach Joe Gibbs.

The Washington Redskins finished out 2008/2009 with a .500 regular season record (8 wins, 8 losses). Get your Washington Redskins tickets and see if they can make the playoffs this year.
