Vanderbilt University Commodores Tickets Information

Located in Nashville, Tennessee and founded in 1873, Vanderbilt University is one of the 12 current members of the NCAA Southeastern Conference, and one of 6 in the East Division. It is one of 2, along with the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, located in the great state of Tennessee. It is the only private institution (non-public) in the entire conference.

Vanderbilt University’s 16 varsity athletic teams (6 men's teams, 10 women's teams), including their NCAA football and men's basketball teams, are called the Commodores. The Vanderbilt Commodores’ football games are held at the beloved Dudley Field in the 41,000+ capacity Vanderbilt Stadium. The Vanderbilt University’s basketball arena is the 14,000+ capacity Memorial Gymnasium. The Vanderbilt colors are black and gold.

Football:

The Vanderbilt Commodores have a heated ongoing rivalry with the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Vanderbilt's permanent rival in the opposing West Division is the Ole Miss (aka the University of Mississippi) Rebels.

The Commodores won the Gator Bowl against Auburn Tigers in 1955 and they played in the Peach Bowl in 1974 (tying the Texas Tech Red Raiders) and the Hall of Fame Bowl in 1982 (losing to Air Force Eagles).

The Commodores have seen many of their players make it to the NFL, including: Jay Cutler (Denver Broncos); Justin Geisinger (Tennessee Titans); Jovan Haye, Jamie Winborn, and Shelton Quarles (Tampa Bay Buccaneers); and others.

Lately, Vanderbilt students, especially those in fraternities and sororities, have taken up the habit of dressing up for their football games in jackets and ties (for the men) and sundresses (for the women), in a display of Southern class.

Former Clemson University wide receiver and cornerback Bobby Johnson is the Commodores head coach, after first coaching at Furman University from 1994-2001.

Men's Basketball:

Of all the schools in the Southeastern Conference, Vanderbilt University and the Universities of Kentucky and Arkansas place the heaviest emphasis on basketball. Vanderbilt has taken 3 Southeastern Conference regular season basketball titles, the last in 1993, and 1 Southeastern Conference Championship title, in 1951.

The Commodores are one of only 3 teams to make a 3-point field goal in each and every game since the rule was implemented in 1986. The first time a 3-point field goal is made at any Vanderbilt Commodores men's basketball home game, the announcer shouts, "The streak continues!"

Since 1999 the Commodores head coach has been Kevin Stallings, former head coach of the Illinois State University for 6 straight seasons. In 1980-1982 he played on the Purdue Boilermakers, and helped lead his team to 3 post-season appearances, including in the 1980 NCAA Final Four.

Get your Vanderbilt Commodores tickets now and see the streak continue! Maybe if you're really lucky, you'll get to witness them setting a brand new streak.
