They have traditionally been known as a football powerhouse having earned four National Championships, the most recent in 2005-2006. The Longhorns have also won 29 conference championships, including two Big 12 titles.

The Longhorns are currently coached by Mack Brown, who is in his 11th year with Texas after head coaching at North Carolina. He has led them to an impressive 103-25 record and is credited for revitalizing the Texas football program. He is 8-3 in bowl games, and has won five consecutive since 2004.

Currently, 43 Longhorns play in the NFL including Vince Young (Tennessee Titans), Quentin Jammer (San Diego Chargers), Shaun Rogers (Cleveland Browns), Bo Scaife (Tennessee Titans) and Roy E. Williams (Dallas Cowboys).

The Longhorns have been long-time rivals to Texas A&M University and the University of Oklahoma. Be sure to watch the Longhorns renew their rivalries under quarterback Colt McCoy this year.

The Texas Longhorns have won 3 Big 12 regular season titles, most recently in 2008.
