University of Minnesota Golden Gophers Tickets Information

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are one of 11 teams in the Big Ten Conference - along with the Illinois Fighting Illini, Indiana Hoosiers, Iowa Hawkeyes, Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, Northwestern Wildcats, Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, Purdue Boilermakers, and Wisconsin Badgers.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) men's football and basketball teams for the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota, one of 9 public universities in the Big Ten. They are two of the university's 25 varsity teams.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers play their football home games at the brand new 50,000 seat TCF Bank Stadium and their basketball home games at the 14,321 seat Williams Arena. The team uniform colors are maroon and gold.

Football:

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are one of the oldest college football programs in the nation with their first season in 1882. They have a 635-454-44 overall record since the beginning, a 5-8 postseason bowl record, and 6 claimed national titles.

Head coach Tim Brewster is entering his third year at the helm and has achieved an 8-14 record. He has no prior head coaching experience, but has playing experience as a tight end at Illinois. His hiring was a result of the now-infamous collapse at the Insight Bowl against Texas Tech where they blew a 38-7 third quarter lead and lost 44-41. This was the biggest comeback in Division I-A postseason football.

There are many NFLers that went to the University of Minnesota including Marion Barber III (Dallas Cowboys), Laurence Maroney (New England Patriots), and Ben Utecht (Cincinnati Bengals).

The Golden Gophers started the 2008 season strong with 7 wins in the first 8 games, but finished the 2008 season with a 7-6 record. Get your tickets today and see if they can start the 2009 season strong once again.

Basketball:

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are currently under the leadership of head coach Tubby Smith. Smith is entering his 3rd year with the team after a long and successful stint with Kentucky.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers have a number of school heroes in their previous rosters including the following who've made it to the NBA: Walter Bond (Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons), Willie Burton (Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers), Kris Humphries (Dallas Mavericks), Bobby Jackson (New Orleans/Oklahoma City and others), Voshon Lenard (Milwaukee Bucks and others), Joel Przybilla (Portland Trail Blazers), Kevin McHale (Boston Celtics), and Flip Saunders (head coach of the Washington Wizards), as well as Clem Haskins, former head coach of the Golden Gophers from 1986 to 1999.

Since the Big Ten championship tournament first started in 1998, the Minnesota Golden Gophers have yet to win a Big Ten tournament title. They have, however, won 8 Big Ten regular season titles, most recently 1982. As part of the Big Ten, they have yet to win an NCAA championship tournament, but they won 2 NIT championships (in 1993 and 1998), and were runners-up for the 1980 NIT as well.

In 2008-09 the Minnesota Golden Gophers finished tied for 7th in the conference with a 9-9 (.500) record in the Big Ten and 22-11 (.667) in the NCAA. They may currently seem like the underdogs, but that's all the more reason to pick up your Minnesota Golden Gophers tickets today.
