University of Kansas Jayhawks Tickets Information

The Kansas Jayhawks are one of 12 teams in the Big 12 Conference, one of 2 from the state of Kansas (the others being the Kansas State Wildcats), and one of 6 - along with the Colorado Buffaloes, Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas State Wildcats, Missouri Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers - that play in the North Division. They are one of the university's 16 varsity teams (6 men's, 10 women's).

The Kansas Jayhawks play their basketball home games at the 16,300 seat Allen Fieldhouse and their football home games at the 50,071 seat University of Kansas Memorial Stadium. The team uniform colors are crimson and blue, and the mascots are Big Jay and Baby Jay, the Jayhawks (of course).

Football:

Kansas Jayhawks football has existed since 1890, and although they are not considered a powerhouse like the Jayhawks basketball program, they have produced many successful professional football players in the NFL. These include Gale Sayers, John Riggins, Mike McCormack, John Hadl, Dana Stubblefield, Bobby Douglass and Nolan Cromwell. The Jayhawks’ overall record is 563-543-58.

Under head coach Mark Mangino, the Jayhawks football program has achieved a great level of success over the past few years. In 2007, the Jayhawks were ranked #7 in the nation with a 12-1 record and won the Big 12 North conference. They followed this with a victory at the 2007 Orange Bowl against the Virginia Tech Hokies. They also were victorious over Minnesota at the 2008 Insight Bowl and finished 8-5 for the 2008 season despite having the 7th hardest schedule in Division I football.

The Jayhawks participate in intense rivalries, such as the Border War against Missouri, the Sunflower Showdown against Kansas State, and the yearly showdown against Nebraska that has existed since 1906. Be sure to purchase your Jayhawks football tickets and watch them return to prominence in the Big 12 and in the nation

Basketball:

The Kansas Jayhawks have a number of school heroes in their previous rosters including current NBA (National Basketball Association) players: Nick Collison (Oklahoma City Thunder), Drew Gooden (Dallas Mavericks), Kirk Hinrich (Chicago Bulls), and Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics). The Kansas Jayhawks also boast the following former players inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame: Wilt Chamberlain, Paul Endacott, Bill Johnson, Clyde Lovellette, Ralph Miller, Ernie Quigley, Adolph Rupp, and Dean Smith.

Reigning Big 12 conference tournament champions and regular season champions), the Kansas Jayhawks have won 52 conference titles in their history, including 10 regular season championships and 4 tournament championships. They have won 3 NCAA Championships in 1952, 1988, and this past year, 2008. In 108 years of play, the Jayhawks' all-time record is the best of the Big 12 schools, with 1,970 wins and 793 losses (.713).

For 6 seasons now (since 2003), the Kansas Jayhawks have been coached by Bill Self. The University of Kansas' first men's basketball coach was none other than the inventor of the very game of basketball, Dr. James Naismith.

In 2008-09 the Kansas Jayhawks finished first in the Big 12 Conference, posting 14 wins and 2 losses (.875), with an overall 2008-09 NCAA record of 27 wins and 8 losses (.771). Get your Kansas Jayhawks tickets now and see them go for a 6th championship year in a row!
