University of Georgetown Hoyas Tickets Information

The Georgetown Hoyas are one of 16 teams in the Big East Conference - along with the Cincinnati Bearcats, Connecticut Huskies, DePaul Blue Demons, Louisville Cardinals, Marquette Golden Eagles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Pittsburgh Panthers, Providence Friars, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, St. John's Red Storm, Seton Hall Pirates, USF Bulls, Syracuse Orange, Villanova Wildcats, and West Virginia Mountaineers.

The Georgetown Hoyas are the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) men's basketball team for the University of Georgetown in Washington, D.C., one of 9 private universities and one of 8 Catholic universities in the Big East. Georgetown is one of the founding members of the Big East conference - along with Syracuse, St. John's, and Providence - who in 1979 invited Connecticut, Boston College, and Seton Hall to form a brand new conference concentrating mainly around basketball. One of their fiercest rivalries, in fact, is with fellow conference founding members the Syracuse Orange.

The Hoyas are one of the university's 27 varsity teams. The Georgetown men's basketball team is the school's most watched and accomplished.

The Georgetown Hoyas play their home games at the 20,600 seat Verizon Center. The team uniform colors are blue and gray, and the team mascot is Jack the Bulldog.

The Georgetown Hoyas have a number of school heroes in their previous rosters including NBA draft 1st overall picks Allen Iverson (1996) and Patrick Ewing (1985), and the following others who've also made it to the NBA: David Wingate, Reggie Williams, Jerome Williams, Jahidi White, Michael Seetney, Charles Smith, Don Reid, Dikembe Mutombo, Alonzo Mourning, Jaren Jackson, Othella Harrington, Sleepy Floyd, and Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje.

Starting with their first Big East championship win in 1979-80, the Georgetown Hoyas have won 7 Big East tournament titles and 4 Big East regular season titles (tying for 3 others), and most recently in 2007-08 when they won both the regular season and tournament titles the same season. In their history, they have made 25 NCAA Championship appearances, and 11 NIT (National Invitation Tournament) appearances.

For 6 seasons now, the Georgetown Hoyas have been coached by John Thompson III, former head coach of the Princeton Tigers and son of the former Georgetown head coach John Thompson, Jr. who took his Hoyas to their 1984 NCAA championship win. In his first 5 seasons with the team, John Thompson III led them to a 116-51 record.

In 2008-09 the Georgetown Hoyas finished with a 7-11 record in the Big East and 16-15 in the NCAA. Get your Georgetown Hoyas tickets and watch them put all other teams to the test.
