Syracuse University Orange Tickets Information

The Syracuse Orange are one of 16 teams in the Big East Conference - along with the Cincinnati Bearcats, Connecticut Huskies, DePaul Blue Demons, Georgetown Hoyas, Louisville Cardinals, Marquette Golden Eagles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Pittsburgh Panthers, Providence Friars, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, St. John's Red Storm, Seton Hall Pirates, USF Bulls, Villanova Wildcats, and West Virginia Mountaineers.

The Syracuse Orange (formerly and occasionally still known as the Orangemen) are the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) men's football and basketball teams for Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, one of 9 private universities in the Big East and the only private Big East university that is non-sectarian. Syracuse University helped found the Big East in 1979 - along with Georgetown, St. John's, and Providence - when they invited Boston College, Connecticut, and Seton Hall to form a conference together.

The Syracuse Orange play their football and basketball home games at the 33,633 seat Carrier Dome. The Carrier Dome represents the largest domed stadium on any college campus, and the largest in the Northeastern United States. The team color is orange, and the mascot is Otto the Orange. The team played its first recorded game in 1899 against the Christian Association of Hamilton in Ontario, Canada. The Orange have a fierce rivalry with the Georgetown Hoyas that dates back to their co-founding of the Big East.

Football:

The Syracuse Orange were established in 1889 and have since produced a winning record, 673-472-49 (.563). They have a 12-9-1 bowl record, and one claimed national championship in 1959.

They are coached by Doug Marrone, entering his first year at the helm. He has spent his last 9 years coaching for various teams in the NFL and is recently coming off a stint as the Offensive Coordinator of the high-powered New Orleans Saints. He is also a former student and football player at Syracuse.

The Syracuse Orange have produced many Hall of Fame-calibre football players. These include fullback Larry Csonka, halfback Jim Brown, center Jim Ringo, and tight end John Mackey.

The Syracuse Orange football program has struggled as of late. In the 2008 season, the team finished 3-9 overall, but with a new head coach, the Orange should be on the upswing. Get your Orange tickets today and watch it all happen in person.

Basketball:

The Syracuse Orange have a number of school heroes in their previous rosters including the following who are currently playing in the NBA (National Basketball Association): Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets), Etan Thomas (Oklahoma City Thunder), and Hakim Warrick (Milwaukee Bucks).

The Orangemen record books also count among their number Vic Hanson, part of the winning 1926 team and now enshrined forever in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Another Syracuse Orange in the Hall of Fame is Dave Bing who brought the 1964 team to the NIT and the 1966 team to its second NCAA tournament showing.

Heading into the 2008-09 season the 5-time Big East tournament champs, Syracuse Orange has won 5 Big East tournament title (most recently 2005 and 2006) and 5 Big East regular season titles (including the Big East's first in 1980). They have made 32 NCAA Championship appearances and won 1 (in 2003), including making 4 Final Fours. They also won 2 national championships pre-NCAA (in 1918 and 1926). And they've made 11 NIT (National Invitation Tournament) appearances, winning 2.

In his 34th season as head coach of the Orange (since 1976), is 2005 Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim who led the team to a 33-year career record of 799 wins - 288 losses (.735).

In 2008-09 the Syracuse Orange finished with a 11-7 record in the Big East and 28-10 in the NCAA. Get your Syracuse Orange tickets now and watch them fight to hold on to their Big East crown for a third year running.
