Sugar Bowl Tickets Information

Host to the year’s SEC Conference champions, the Sugar Bowl is an eagerly-awaited component of the larger series of Bowl Games that constitute the Bowl Championship Series, in which the best football teams of the season from all of the major NCAA Division 1-A conferences, those being: Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West, Pac-10, Southeastern, Sun Belt, and the Western Athletic, along with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish – all compete to determine which team will become this year’s college football champion. That final determination is made at the BCS National Championship Game (or BCS Title Game). Besides the Sugar Bowl, the other Bowl Games leading up to the BCS Title Game are the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Orange Bowl.

Started in 1935, the Sugar Bowl shares with the Sun Bowl and Orange Bowl renown as the second oldest national college football Bowl Games next to the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Rose Bowl. Tulane University won that first ever Sugar Bowl, beating out Temple University 20-14.

In the past sponsored by USF&G Financial Services, and this year sponsored by Allstate, the Sugar Bowl is played at the nearly a 70,000-capacity Louisiana Superdome (aka the Dome or the New Orleans Superdome) in New Orleans, LA (The Big Easy), the same arena that made worldwide press when it temporarily housed the displaced victims of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina.

Each year the Sugar Bowl gives out the coveted Manning Award, named for the family trio of Archie, Peyton, and Eli, awarded to the top college football quarterback of the year.

The 2009 Sugar Bowl saw the Utah Utes devour the Alabama Crimson Tide, 31-17. The school with the most Sugar Bowl appearances is LSU, with 13, though the school with the most Sugar Bowl wins is Alabama, despite having appeared in only 13 Sugar Bowl Games.

Both teams represent the Southeastern Conference. The Sugar Bowl game is nothing if not a highlight of the SEC Conference, as there have been far more Sugar Bowl wins by SEC teams than any other conference, 36 wins and 68 appearances.

The Sugar Bowl airs on FOX TV…but who wants to watch it on a TV screen when you can get your Sugar Bowl tickets and see it all live?
