Rutgers University Scarlet Knights Tickets Information

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are one of 16 teams in the Big East Conference - along with the Cincinnati Bearcats, Connecticut Huskies, DePaul Blue Demons, Georgetown Hoyas, Louisville Cardinals, Marquette Golden Eagles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Pittsburgh Panthers, Providence Friars, St. John's Red Storm, Seton Hall Pirates, USF Bulls, Syracuse Orange, Villanova Wildcats, and West Virginia Mountaineers.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) men's football and basketball teams for Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, one of 7 public universities in the Big East. They are one of 2 schools in the Big East from New Jersey, the other being Seton Hall. Historically, Rutgers University was one of the earliest to participate in intercollegiate sports.

The Rutgers athletic teams remained "Independent" (meaning: not part of any conference) from their start in 1866 through 1946, when it joined the Middle Three Conference for 3 years. After that, between 1958 and 1961, they were part of the Middle Atlantic Conference. Rutgers then returned to its former state of independence until 1991 when it joined the Big East for football only. The rest of the Scarlet Knights came over to the Big East in 1995, where they remain today.

The Scarlet Knights men's football and basketball teams are two of the school's 27 varsity teams.

The Scarlet Knights have an ongoing in-conference rivalry with in-state neighbor the Seton Hall Pirates. One of their oldest standing rivalries, however, is an out-of-conference rivalry with the Princeton Tigers that's gone on since the 1860s.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights play their football home games at the 52,000 seat Rutgers Stadium, and their basketball home games at the 8,000 seat Louis Brown Athletic Center (aka RAC - for Rutgers Athletic Center). The team color is scarlet, and the mascot is the Chanticleer.

Football:

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are among the most storied franchises in NCAA football. Rutgers is considered the birthplace of college football, as the team participated in the first intercollegiate game ever, defeating Princeton by a score of 6-4. They have a career record of 596-589-42 (.503), and a 3-2 record in bowl games. They also have one claimed national title in 1869.

Today, the team is coached by Greg Schiano. Schiano, entering his 9th season with the team, is credited with the revival of the Rutgers football program. Although the team struggled during the first four years of his tenure, they have since posted a record of 34-17, including three bowl wins.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will start the 2009 season on September 7 against Cincinnati at Rutgers Stadium. Make sure you get your tickets immediately so that you don’t miss out.

Basketball:

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have a number of school heroes in their previous rosters including Quincy Douby, currently playing for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA (National Basketball Association).

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have never won a Big East tournament title or a Big East regular season title. They have made 6 NCAA Championship appearances and 14 NIT (National Invitation Tournament) appearances.

Currently in his 4th year coaching the Rutgers Scarlet Knights is Fred Hill, former assistant coach and assistant head coach of 8 schools over 24 years before spending a season as associate head coach of the Scarlet Knights. While playing in college at Montclair State, coach Hill was all-conference guard, and took his team to the NCAA Division II tournament.

In 2008-09 the Rutgers Scarlet Knights finished with a 2-16 record in the Big East and 11-21 in the NCAA. Don't miss your chance to see this team pull out all the stops this year. Get your Rutgers Scarlet Knights tickets right away.
