Providence College Friars Tickets Information

The Providence Friars are one of 16 teams in the Big East Conference - along with the Cincinnati Bearcats, Connecticut Huskies, DePaul Blue Demons, Georgetown Hoyas, Louisville Cardinals, Marquette Golden Eagles, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Pittsburgh Panthers, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, St. John's Red Storm, Seton Hall Pirates, USF Bulls, Syracuse Orange, Villanova Wildcats, and West Virginia Mountaineers.

The Providence Friars are the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) men's basketball team for Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island, one of 9 private universities and one of 8 Catholic universities in the Big East.

The Friars count the University of Rhode Island Rams as their top rivals, with an annual Rhode Island Championship game in most of the sports in which both schools compete, men's basketball included. The Friars are also ongoing rivals of the UConn Huskies.

The Providence Friars play their home games at the 12,993 seat Dunkin Donuts Center. The team uniform colors are black, white, and silver, and their mascots are the Friar, wearing the same black hood (cappa) of the Dominican Order that runs the school, and Friar Boy the dog.

The Providence Friars have a number of school heroes in their previous rosters including 24 All-Americans and only one player currently in the NBA (National Basketball Association): Ryan Gomes (Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Providence Friars have won 1 Big East tournament title (in 1994). They have never won a Big East regular season title. They have made 15 NCAA Championship appearances and won 1 (in 1994), and they've made 18 NIT (National Invitation Tournament) appearances, winning 2 (in 1961 and 1963). They appeared in 2 Final Fours (1973 and 1987).

Keno Davis is entering his second year as head coach of the Providence Friars. On February 24, 2009, Davis led Providence to possibly their biggest win in franchise history, knocking off #1 Pittsburgh. Overall, the Keno Davis era at Providence has started off promising.

The Friars also boast as an alumnus Lenny Wilkens, all-time NBA winningest coach and Basketball Hall of Famer as both a player and a coach. Other former Friars include former Georgetown coach John Thompson and current George Mason head coach Jim Larranaga.

In 2008-09 the Providence Friars finished with a 10-8 record in the Big East and 19-14 in the NCAA. Get your Providence Friars tickets now and check out whether they can turn it around this season.
