A Y2K innovation, the Minnesota Wild broke out onto the ice in 2000. In their first game against former Minnesota team the North Stars, now the Dallas Stars, they wowed a crowd of 18,500 crazed hockey fans with a 6-0 shutout. Adding insult to injury, that was the first regular season game for Dallas in Minnesota since 1993.

Minnesota Wild Tickets Information

The Minnesota Wild have some of the best fans in the NHL. For proof, look no further than the fact that as of April 29, 2009, the Wild have sold out every home game in franchise history, and it does not look like there is any signs of this streak ending. The city of Minnesota lost their team once, and will do anything to ensure that it does not happen again.

The summer of 2009 brought about change in the Minnesota Wild organization. A new general manager was hired in the form of Chuck Fletcher (son of former Maple Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher). He in turn hired the second head coach in Wild history, and former NHL defenseman Todd Richards. His only coaching experience in the NHL came last year when he was the assistant coach of the San Jose Sharks.

After making the playoffs for the first couple of times in 2006-07 and 2007-08, the Wild did not qualify for the postseason in 2008-09. However, the Wild have the potential to go deep this year, especially when one takes a look at their roster. The team has built from the goaltender out, as the success of the team starts with Niklas Backstrom in net. Since entering the NHL, he has won 93 games in regulation, while only losing 62 games (including overtime losses). Let’s not forget about his 24 shutouts in 3 seasons.

On defence, Brent Burns has emerged as a standout. He joins Shane Hnidy, Kim Johnsson, and Marek Zidlicky on the blueline. Minnesota has a decent group of forwards as well. Captain Mikko Koivu had his breakout year in 2008-09, tallying 67 points. The younger brother of long-time NHLer Saku Koivu, he leads a group of forwards that includes Andrew Brunette, Martin Havlat, Antti Miettinen and Owen Nolen. The Wild also have one of the most intimidating players in the league on their roster. Derek Boogaard, nicknamed the Boogieman, tallied 87 penalty minutes in 51 games last season. He forces opposing teams to take notice when he steps on the ice.

The Wild look to push towards the playoffs this season. Be sure to join 18,064 screaming fans in selling out the Xcel Energy Center once again. Get your tickets today.
