Metallica Tickets Information

Selling over 90 million records worldwide to date, Metallica is one of the most influential heavy metal bands in the world. They’re back on tour this year in support of their ninth studio album, Death Magnetic, with the Magnetic World Tour 2009, kicked it off with three sold-out Metallica concerts in Mexico City starting June 4, 2009. Metallica plans to continue touring through August 2010.

Metallica’s band members have changed over time, but the current lineup features James Hetfield on lead vocals and guitar, Lars Ulrich on drums, Kirk Hammett on lead guitar, and Robert Trujillo on bass guitar.

Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981 when Lars Ulrich placed an ad in the newspaper seeking other metal musicians to jam with, Metallica was created when James Hetfield answered the call. They recorded their first original single, “Hit the Lights”, and became a hot commodity in San Francisco and New York.

Lead guitarist Kirk Hammet joined in April 1983 and they released their first album, Kill ‘Em All, later that year. The album was well received in the U.S. and Europe with a slew of concerts to follow, but it was the release of their second album, Ride the Lightning, that proved they were not another one-hit metal album wonder. Metallica’s reputation continued to soar worldwide.

The release of their third album in 1986, Master of Puppets, for which the band toured with Ozzy Osbourne, quickly increased their ever-growing fan base. But tragedy struck the band when a tour bus accident killed base player, Cliff Burton. Soon after, Jason Newsted became bassist for Metallica and they released …And Justice For All in 1988, reaching number six on U.S. charts and receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Metal/Hard Rock album. Embarking on a worldwide tour, Metallica tickets were in demand.

The next album, Metallica (also known as “The Black Album”), released in 1997, debuted at number one on Billboard 200, bringing Metallica mainstream attention. It’s been certified 15 times platinum, making it the 25th highest-selling album in the U.S., resulting in three years of Metallica concerts before the band went on hiatus.

Four years later, Metallica came back with the album Load, and subsequently Reload; the music was powerful and eclectic, very different from the Black album, marking a change in Metallica’s musical direction. The success of these albums was followed by some arduous times for the band, including the loss of member Jason Newsted and James Hetfield’s stay in a rehabilitation center.

After recording their next album, St Anger, Newsted was replaced with Robert Trujillo in 2003. When the album was released that year, it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Receiving mixed reviews from the critics, the album was raw and unrestrained—Metallica had once again managed to shock their fans and reinvent themselves, even receiving another Grammy award for Best Metal Performance—“St Anger”. Metallica tickets for the “Madly In Anger With The World” tour were sold out right through to its final date in 2004.

Their most recent album, Death Magnetic, revisits Metallica’s heavy metal sound from the eighties. Released September 2008, the album sold 490,000 copies in the U.S. and debuted at number one on Billboard 200, becoming the first band to have five consecutive studio albums debut at number one in Billboard’s history.

The World Magnetic Tour to promote Death Magnetic started in October 2008 with Metallica tickets selling out at every venue. In June 2009, they played three sold-out shows in Mexico City before a European tour that includes Milan, Barcelona and Dublin, and they’ll be back in North America in the fall. Get your Metallica tickets here fast before you lose your chance to see one of the greatest metal bands in the history of music.
