Lynyrd Skynyrd Tickets Information

Lynyrd Skynyrd got their illustrious start when singer Ronnie Van Zant struck drummer Bob Burns in the head with a line drive and knocked him unconscious, somehow spurring a friendship that led to the formation of the rock band with Allen Collins and Larry Junstrom called The Noble Five. This was in 1964.

In ’65,Van Zant, Burns, and guitarist Collins (no longer playing with Junstrom) welcomed guitarist Gary Rossington, and bassist Leon Wilkeson who started playing together at a high school and form the core of the band that will become Lynyrd Skynyrd (though for the time being is known as My Backyard). Over the years they tried on many names, calling themselves “Conqueror Worm”, “Sons of Satan”, the “Wildcats”, and the “One Percent”. They took on the name they have today in 1970 in facetious honor of their gym teacher, Leonard Skinner, who didn’t “agree with” long-haired students.

In 1968, Lynyrd Skynyrd released their debut single “Need All My Friends” and the rest is rock and roll history. Between 1973 and 1977 they released 5 hit albums, starting with the phonetically subtitled debut best known as Pronounced, followed by Second Helping (1974), Nuthin’ Fancy (1975), and Gimme Back My Bullets (1976).

Three of the original core members of Lynyrd Skynyrd have since deceased, most notably Ronnie Van Zant who died in a plane crash along with several other members of the band on October 20, 1977, just 3 weeks after releasing their 5th studio album Street Survivors.

This tragedy led to a temporary reprieve for the band, one that no one ever expected to be temporary. But 1987 welcomed the beloved southern rock band back to the big stage, with the long-awaited Lynyrd Skynyrd reunion, with Ronnie’s little brother Johnny Van Zant taking over the role of frontman. Originally intended to be a one-time tribute tour, immortalized on the Live double-disc set Southern By The Grace Of God/Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Tour – 1987, but were so amazingly well-received that they continued playing together, straight through to today.

Since reuniting, the band released 7 more studio albums: Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991 (1991), "The Last Rebel" (1993), "Endangered Species" (1994), "Twenty" (1997), "Edge Of Forever" (1999), "Christmas Time Again" (2000), "Vicious Cycle" (2003).

At this newest Lynyrd Skynyrd tour the lineup is lead vocalist Johnny Van Zan Zant, guitarist Gary Rossington, keyboardist Billy Powell, guitarists and backup vocalists Rickey Medlocke and Mark Matejka, bassist and backup vocalist Ean Evans, and drummer Michael Cartellone.

The 2007 Lynyrd Skynyrd tour opens on February 8 at AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas and runs at least through September 11 at the York County Fair in York, Pennsylvania. Some of the performances are regular Lynyrd Skynyrd shows while some are the special Lynyrd Skynard Rowdy Frynds Tour. Whichever shows you can make it to, get your Lynyrd Skynyrd tickets ahead of time, so you can be sure you’ll get it for all the fun.
