Edmonton Oilers Tickets Information

The Oilers have also won 5 Northwest Division Championships and 7 Western Conference Championships. This past season, the Oilers missed the postseason for the third straight year, but are poised to return to the glory days with a young team that has a promising future.

In their first year of play (1972-73) they were known as the Alberta Oilers, a founding member of the WHA, owned by Bill Hunter, owner of the Edmonton Oil Kings and founder of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The team was planning to play in Edmonton and Calgary both, and only changed their name to the Oilers when it turned out they'd played all their games in Edmonton.

Pat Quinn is entering his first year at the helm of the Edmonton Oilers, replacing long-time coach Craig MacTavish. Formerly a coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings and the Vancouver Canucks, Quinn brings a wealth of coaching experience and a history of developing young players into superstars. This should work well in Edmonton, as the team is centered around a core of young players that have the potential to develop into solid players.

Captain Ethan Moreau leads a team that has made several offseason moves to improve. No signing is more significant than the acquisition of goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin. For the first time in years, the Oilers will be backstopped by consistent goaltending. The Oilers have also boosted their scoring ability by signing centerman Patrick O’Sullivan.

Khabibulin and O’Sullivan join many Oilers players that have become household names in Edmonton. Ales Hemsky, Sam Gagner, Dustin Penner and Andrew Cogliano all display solid two-way skills and are improving as they gain more NHL experience. With a solid defensive core including Sheldon Souray, Steve Staios, Lubomir Visnovski, Jason Strudwick, Tom Gilbert and Denis Grebeshkov, the Oilers are primed to get back to the playoffs this year.
