Def Leppard Tickets Information

Starting out as “Atomic Mass”, the band formed by 3 school chums changed it to “Deaf Leopard” and ultimately “Def Leppard” before launching themselves on the public. After a slight reshuffling of membership, the band released two EPs – Def Leppard EP and Getcha Rocks Off. This latter EP received a ton of airplay on the BBC and was revered for its contribution to punk and new wave. It was at this point that the band added their then 15-year old drummer. The right band at the right time, Def Leppard continued to elicit a passionate following among British heavy metalheads, perhaps only being surpassed by Iron Maiden in their influence on the movement.

In March of 1980, the band released their debut album On Through The Night which hit #15 in the U.K. and afforded them the opportunity to tour overseas and try and repeat their British success in America. Their second release High ‘n’ Dry raised the bar, and saw one of heavy metal’s first music videos hit MTV with “Bringin’ on the Heartbreak”.

It was primarily the success of two albums that cemented Def Leppard's place in rock ‘n roll legend: "Pyromania" and "Hysteria". These two albums each achieved over 10 million sales in the U.S., putting Def Leppard in an elite club with only 4 other bands – Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, and the Eagles.

The Pyromania single “Photograph” replaced “Beat It” by Michael Jackson as MTV’s most frequently requested video. As the album climbed closer and closer to the 6 million sales mark, singles “Foolin’” and “Rock of Ages” led to the album reaching second only to Thriller, again by Michael Jackson, on the U.S. Album chart. Surpassing gold and every level of platinum imaginable, Pyromania has been certified by the Recording Industry Association of America as diamond.

The Def Leppard Pyromania tour started as an opening act for Billy Squier and ended up selling out a crowd of 55,000 in San Diego. In 1984, Rolling Stone Magazine’s readers voted Def Leppard as their favorite rock band of the year.

1984 was also the year drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident. But that didn’t stop him. He’s now renowned as the world’s greatest one-armed drummer, and many consider him the greatest rock drummer with any number of arms.

With their next, and 4th, album – "Hysteria" – the hits kept coming. “Animal”, “Pour Some Sugar On Me”, “Women”, “Armageddon It”, “Rocket”, and – bizarrely – the band’s only number 1 single “Love Bites” are all still on the playlists of rock and roll fans’ iPods today.

Their next album – "Adrenalin" – may not have been as benchmark-setting for the band, but it still hit #1 on the U.K., U.S., and Canada charts. Over the years, Def Leppard released a string of other great albums, including "Retro Active", "Slang", "Euphoria", "X", and their 2006 all-cover album "Yeah!" The band's new album, entitled Songs from the "Sparkle Lounge", was released worldwide on April 28, 2008 and on April 30, 2008 in Japan. The album debuted at #5 on The Billboard 200 in America. The first single is entitled "Nine Lives" and features country singer Tim McGraw, who co-wrote the song with Joe Elliott, Phil Collen, and Rick Savage.

Def Leppard is currently Joe Elliot on lead vocals, Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell on guitar and backing vocals, Rick Savage on bass and backing vocals, and Rick Allen on drums.

Def Leppard is currently touring 41 US cities plus Toronto, Ontario, Canada during Summer 2009 with Poison and Cheap Trick. The 2009 Def Leppard Tour started on June 12 in Dublin and will be slated to run through September 12 in Auburn, WA.
