Columbus Blue Jackets Tickets Information

After the Cleveland Barons left in 1978, hockey fans in Ohio had to wait 22 years until another NHL team came their way in the form of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The name Blue Jackets was chosen to celebrate patriotism, pride, and the rich Civil War history in the city of Columbus and the state of Ohio.

Under the deft coaching of Ken "Hitch" Hitchcock, who took the Dallas Stars to a Stanley Cup win over the Buffalo Sabres in 1999, the Columbus Blue Jackets have a very qualified, experienced coach to help their young, promising players develop. 2008-09 was a special season for the team as it was the first time that the Jackets made the playoffs, although they were swept in the conference quarterfinals by the Detroit Red Wings. With a very skilled, deep team, they expect to make the playoffs for years to come.

The Blue Jackets have based their team around superstar Rick Nash, who signed an eight-year contract extension in the offseason. A former first overall pick in the NHL draft, four time all-star, and gold medal winner in the 2007 World Hockey Championships representing Canada, Nash is touted for his goal-scoring abilities and nose for the puck.

Around Nash, the Blue Jackets have built a formidable team. Young guns include Derick Brassard, Nikita Filatov and Jakub Voracek. Standout goaltender Steve Mason has also created a name for himself, finishing with a 33-20-7 record in his rookie season with the team, and taking home the 2009 Calder Memorial Trophy for rookie of the year. He was also nominated for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goaltender, along with eventual winner Tim Thomas of the Boston Bruins and Niklas Backstrom of the Minnesota Wild. Players like Antoine Vermette and Samuel Pahlsson have been added to the mix to push the Blue Jackets to another level.

The atmosphere at Nationwide Arena was electric when the Blue Jackets took the ice in the 2009 playoffs. They figure to get there again with their offseason additions, and the development of their young players. Make sure you don’t miss any of the action this season and get your tickets today.
