Billy Elliot Tickets Information

Billy Elliot the Musical is an award-winning musical adaptation of the British film of the same name that was written by Lee Hall, directed by Stephen Daldry, starred Jamie Bell, and enchanted audiences and critics alike.

Where in Billy Elliot the film, music appeared in the form of familiar punk rock songs, this live theatrical revival features original music by none other than Sir Elton John himself, with book and lyrics by the story’s creator himself, Lee Hall.

Billy Elliot The Musical is the story is of a young lad named Billy Elliot, the son of a brusquely masculine coal-miner during hard times who decides to go against the grain, and lays down the boxing gloves to take up ballet dancing. Ridiculed and shamed, forced to practice in secret, Billy Elliot eventually wins over his father’s approval after the man finally sees his son dance.

The first live Billy Elliot tickets were for the 2005 premiere in London’s West End, a performance that delivered the show 9 Laurence Olivier Award nominations and 4 awards, Best Musical among them. That catapulted Billy Elliot tickets overseas, first to Australia and then to New York.

Billy Elliot The Musical won 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical as well as a rare Best Leading Actor Award given jointly to the 3 young men – David Alvarez, Kiril Kulish, and Trent Kowalik – who originally took turns playing the title role.

Today’s Billy Elliot tickets could give you a chance to see any one of those same three young men playing the lead role, with the addition of a fourth actor in the rotation, Tommy Batchelor.

Supporting Billy Elliot cast members include Haydn Gwynne (Olivier award nominated for playing Oolie/Donna “City of Angels” and originated Billie Burke in “Ziegfeld”; both in London’s West End) as Mrs. Wilkinson, a role she originated in the London premiere, and for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award.

Joining her is Gregory Jbarra (the original Andre Thibault in Broadway’s “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”, the original Squash Bernstein in “Victor/Victoria”, and the original Sohovik in the “Damn Yankees!” 1994 revival; all on Broadway) as Dad.

Billy Elliot tickets on Broadway show the original feature film’s director Stephen Daldry bringing his own vision back to life on stage as director once again. Daldry, in fact, directed all 3 live theatrical versions of Billy Elliot: in London’s West End, in Sydney, Australia, and on Broadway. Daldry directed 10 plays for the Royal Court Theatre including “Via Dolorossa” and “An Inspector Calls”, both of which he also reproduced on Broadway. He earned a Best Director Oscar nomination for directing the film version of Billy Elliot.

Peter Darling reprised his role from the film Billy Elliot as choreographer for Billy Elliot The Musical. He is the recipient of numerous Olivier Award nominations for his choreography in shows produced in London’s West End. He also choreographed Joel Schumacher’s film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera”.

Creator of the music for Billy Elliot, Sir Elton John, of course, is the legendary songwriter who’s won a myriad of Grammy Awards, Tony Awards, and BRIT Awards. Other Broadway shows Sir Elton has written the music for include Disney’s “The Lion King” with lyrics by Tim Rice, and later “Aida” also with Tim Rice.. His classic radio hits include “Rocket Man”, “Daniel”, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, and “Candle in the Wind”.

For Broadway’s Billy Elliot, he and lyricist Lee Hall (with whom he is also collaborating on a new film) created songs like “Electricity”, “Expressing Yourself”, “Shine”, “Grandma’s Song”, and “Once We Were Kings”.

Broadway’s Billy Elliot tickets are for performances at the Imperial Theatre.
