Big 12 Championship Game Tickets Information

The Big 12 Championship Game was first played after the 1996 NCAA Division 1-A college football season, the first year of play for the Big 12 Conference. Before 1996, the teams comprising the Big 12- the Colorado Buffaloes, the Iowa State Cyclones, the Kansas Jayhawks, the Missouri Tigers, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Oklahoma Sooners, and the Texas Longhorns – were gathered from the former Big Eight Conference along with four additional teams previously affiliated with the Southwest Conference.

At the end of each NCAA football season, the top team from the Big 12 North Division competes against the top team from the Big 12 South Division for the title of Big 12 Conference champions for the year. The winner of the Big 12 Conference Championship Game goes on to represent the Big 12 in the Bowl Championship Series.

The first Big 12 Championship game was played in 1996 at the Trans-World Dome in St. Louis, Missouri, when Texas beat Nebraska 37-27. The following year, Nebraska came back to beat Texas A&M for the Big 12 Championship title, 54-15. And the year after that, Texas A&M returned to beat Kansas State for the Big 12 Championship title, 36-33.

Last year, in 2008, Oklahoma earned the Big 12 Championship title, beating Missouri for the second straight year in a slaughter, 62-21. That game was played at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The 2009 Big 12 Conference Championship Game takes place at the brand new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

In the history of the Big 12 Conference, the Oklahoma Sooners have made 7 appearances at the Big 12 Championship game, more than any other schools. Nebraska, Texas, and Colorado tie for the second most appearances, with 4 each. Oklahoma also leads in Big 12 Championship Game wins with 6, to Texas and Nebraska’s 2.

Interestingly, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech have all never appeared in a Big 12 Championship Game.

The 14th annual Big 12 Conference Championship Game takes place on December 5, 2009. The event will be broadcast on ABC Sports and XM Satellite Radio, but who wants to watch it on TV or listen to it on the radio when you can be there for all the action live? Nobody, that’s who – and that’s why Dr. Pepper Big 12 Championship Game tickets are always quick to sell out. Get yours while you still can.
