Army Black Knights Tickets Information

The Army Black Knights are the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) varsity athletics teams for the United States Military Academy (aka West Point) in West Point, New York. Besides the Midshipmen, the Black Knights count as their other chief rival the other military team, the Air Force Falcons.

The teams’ official fight song is “On Brave Old Army Team”, led by the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band. The team uniform colors are gold and black, and their mascot, once the mule, is now, predictably, the Black Knight.

The Army men’s basketball and football teams are two of the university’s 25 varsity teams.

Men’s Basketball

The Army Black Knights men’s basketball team is one of 8 members of the Patriot League, the others being: the American Eagles, the Bucknell Bison, the Colgate Raiders, the College of the Holy Cross Crusaders, the Lafayette Leopards, the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, and the Navy Midshipmen. The Black Knights men’s basketball team plays their home games at the 5,043-seat Christl Arena.

Currently in his fifth season as head coach of the Army Black Knights is Jim Crews, former coach at the University of Evansville and former player for Indiana University, Bloomington.

The Army Black Knights have a number of school heroes in their previous rosters including: Chuck Connors, Neil Dougherty, Mike Krzyzewski, Elmer Oliphant, John Roosma, and Mike Silliman.

The Black Knights men’s basketball team finished 2006 with a 1-13 conference record and 5-22 overall.

Football

The Army Black Knights football team is one of 2 teams in the NCAA not a part of any Conference, the other Independent team being Army’s chief rival, the United States Naval Academy’s Navy Midshipmen. The Black Knights football team plays their home games at the 39,929 seat Michie Stadium.

The Army Black Knights have been playing football since 1890 and in that time have achieved an overall record of .560 (636-449-51) and a postseason bowl record of .500 even (2-2-0). Their most recent bowl appearance was the 1996 Independence Bowl where they lost to Auburn University. In 1914, 1944, 1945 and 1946, they won the Wire National Title.

Currently in his first season in the position, Rich Ellerson is the current head coach of the Army football team, replacing Stan Brock.

A number of Army footballers have earned their way into the college football hall of fame, some of them (namely: Doc Blanchard, Glenn Davis, and Pete Dawkins) going on to win the Heisman Trophy and the Maxwell Award.

The regular college football season officially ends, in fact, on a weekend full of particularly contentious matches that always includes the always vicious Army-Navy Game.

The Black Knights football team finished out 2006 with a 3-9 overall record.<.p>
