SEC (Southeastern Conference)

The SEC is one of the intercollegiate athletics conferences in Dvision I of the NCAA. It is comprised of 12 member schools located in 9 states in the southeastern region of the United States, those being Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee. It holds its headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama.

There are 17 sports, 8 men's and 9 women's, fielded in the Southeastern Conference (commonly known as the SEC). Member schools in the SEC are divided into two divisions, East and West. The member schools and their respective teams are:

East Division

  • University of Florida - Florida Gators
  • University of Georgia - Georgia Bulldogs
  • University of Kentucky - Kentucky Wildcats
  • University of South Carolina - South Carolina Gamecocks
  • University of Tennessee - Tennessee Volunteers
  • Vanderbilt University - Vanderbilt Commodores

West Division

  • University of Alabama - Alabama Crimson Tide
  • University of Arkansas - Arkansas Razorbacks
  • Auburn University - Auburn Tigers
  • Louisiana State University - LSU Tigers
  • University of Mississippi - Ole Miss Rebels
  • Mississippi State University - Mississippi State Bulldogs

Football

The Alabama Crimson Tide leads the conference in football, with 21 SEC titles under their belt. The Tennessee Volunteers and the Georgia Bulldogs are SECond and third, with 16 and 12, respectively. The current reigning SEC champions are the Florida Gators, who also leads the conference in number of championships won, with 8. The Alabama Crimson Tide is second with 5 SEC football championships and third is the Tennessee Volunteers with 4. Ole Miss, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Vanderbilt have yet to win an SEC football championship title.

Men's Basketball

The Kentucky Wildcats completely dominate the Southeastern Conference in men's basketball, having won 8 out of the 10 official SEC championship tournaments between 1935 and 2006, and 25 overall. The Kentucky Wildcats have also swept 45 regular season titles.

No other school in the conference comes close, with second place in tourney wins, the Alabama Crimson Tide having only won 6, and second place in regular season titles, the LSU Tigers only winning 9. The Louisiana State Tigers won the first SEC men's basketball tournament, but the Mississippi State Bulldogs are the defending champions.
