The Pacific Ten, or Pac-10, is an intercollegiate athletics conference in the NCAA comprised of 10 schools from 4 states - Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington - in the Western region of the United States. The 10 member schools of the Pac-10 and their corresponding men's basketball teams' names are:

• Arizona State University - Arizona Sun Devils
• University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) - California Golden Bears
• University of Oregon - Oregon Ducks
• Oregon State University - Oregon State Beavers
• Stanford University - Stanford Cardinal
• University of California, Los Angeles - UCLA Bruins
• University of Southern California - USC Trojans
• University of Washington - Washington Huskies
• Washington State University - Washington State Cougars

Before being so-named, the Pacific Ten was originally called the Athletic Association of Western Universities with the four California universities and Washington as charter members, after the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) of which they were a part was forced to dissolve. Next to join was Washington State in 1962, and the two Oregon schools in 1968. At that time, the conference then took on the name Pac-8 (or Pacific 8), becoming the Pac-10 we know it to be today after the two Arizona schools joined in 1978.

Football:

The Pac 10 is an anomaly in college sports. Each school has its own in-state, conference rivalry. The conference contains many football powerhouses, but the class of the conference is the USC Trojans. They have won 38 Pac 10 Conference championships, including 7 straight since 2002. Washington (15), California (14), and UCLA (17) have also won their fair share of Pac 10 titles.

Basketball:

By far the most successful team in the conference is the Bruins, having notched 11 NCAA tournament championships, 36 NCAA tournament appearances overall, including 15 Final Fours. Besides those 11 UCLA wins, Pac-10 teams have won 4 other NCAA championship tournaments (though not necessarily while under the Pac-10 moniker), those being: Oregon in the first ever NCAA tournament in 1939, Stanford in 1942, UC Berkeley in 1959, and Arizona in 1997.

UCLA and Arizona have a particularly brutal ongoing basketball rivalry. UCLA also has a heated rivalry with Notre Dame of the Big East Conference, and Arizona also has an intense basketball rivalry with Stanford. Both Washington schools in the Pac-10 have become shared rivals with the Gonzaga Zags (aka the Gonzaga Bulldogs) of Gonzaga University, part of the West Coast Conference.
